Cockroaches

Turn out the lights, that's when cockroaches come out looking for food. They spread a variety of diseases such as salmonella (food poisonining), gastro-enteritis diarrhoea etc, contaminate food, pollute water supplies and damage books and pictures

Cockroaches are often found in restaurants, hotels and hospitals and are also found in the home. They like to nest in electrical appliances such as fridges, microwaves, kettles and hot water cupboards. It is important to have this pest treated as soon as it is noticed.

German Cockroaches are the commonest variety found in the home. They prefer warm, moist areas close to food and water. Gisborne Cockroaches and Native Cockroaches are generally a lot larger and mostly found outside.

Spray and/or gel can be used in treated cockroaches, depending of the level of infestation.

Post Visit

If using spray, then you must stay out of the house for three hours

• Open all doors and windows. Sit outside for 10 minutes to allow house to air.
• Wipe all benches, cupboards and floor under fridge and stove with hot soapy water.
• Do not wipe the hot water cupboard. Leave it empty for one week.
• Any old newspapers, egg cartons and plastic bags should be thrown away.
• Expect to see cockroaches for the next two-three weeks. Do NOT squash them, this can spread their egg sac. Kill them by using flyspray and deposit them in the bin.
• Vacuum behind pictures and curtains every week. Empty bag outside.
